Orson was a very difficult dog, and his owner says he did everything in his power; that is, everything he thought would help the dog, but to no avail. Yet the dog was a very loving dog. In the owner's words: "He was hard to stay angry, anyway. He was extraordinarily loving. In the car, he liked to put his head on my shoulder, as if I were sailing. While I was working, he would curl up at my feet."
The dog was impossible. "And sometimes he was more than a brush. When he was very excited, he could become angry, barking and prostrating himself, not quite under my control or his own."
The dog and owner connected in an intimate and personal way. The dog led the owner to an internal rebirth, but in the end, Orson proved to be too much to handle.
It is my personal opinion that the dog, as difficult as he was, did not deserve the end that the owner deemed appropriate for him, especially because the dog was so devoted and affectionate. "Orson was one of those dogs who gave unimportant love to only one living person: me." Unfortunately for Orson, that love turned out to be one-sided.
