E-Collar Stimulation Options and Modes
It is important to understand what each collar is capable of to determine if it fits your needs and demands. Here is a quick breakdown of the collar modes you will find on the different trainers we offer to help you understand the capability of each system. As you explore the remote collar systems on our site, you will see some of these terms associated with each e-collar.
Continue
One of the most common features of most e-collar systems where the stimulation is given to your dog for as long as you hold the button down, allowing you to control the duration of the static correction. This occurs at the intensity level of your choice. The continuous stimulation method is the preferred mode for new dog training commands. Most systems are built with a safety cut off approximately 8 seconds per push to ensure that the option is not accidentally triggered on its own. Proper use of this feature is recommended to ensure that you are not over correcting your dog.
Momentary
This stimulation method sends a short, rapid signal to the receiver collar, lasting only a fraction of a second, no matter how long you hold down the remote button. This also occurs at the intensity level of your choice. The momentary setting is more useful with well-trained dogs using commands they already know. Additionally, it acts as a quick way to get your dog's attention without overdoing it.
Vibration
More advanced collar systems have a vibration feature built into the collar for your dog. Most of these systems allow you to set up the device so that the collar will vibrate just before a static correction (continuous or momentary) is delivered, allowing your dog to associate the vibration with the static correction as conditioning. This method allows you to eventually wean your dog off the static correction and begin using just the vibration mode of the collar to deliver commands.
Your
Much like the vibration function, the tone type of stimulation allows you to subsequently train your dog to receive commands with an auditory tone signal. Proper matching and conditioning of the sound signal before the static shock in the early years of training is key to its success. Obviously, this is not the preferred method if you are in hunting situations, where calmness is a key requirement. A vibration setting may be better suited for you if so.
Jump
The skip feature allows you to have two preset intensity levels located on your remote and allows you to easily “skip” back to the higher setting if needed. For example, if your dog is used to receiving static corrections at intensity level 2, but sometimes won’t always listen to you, the skip button will send your dog a correction at the higher intensity setting of your choice, such as level 7.
Jump and climb
Similar to the jump function, this method allows you to work at your regular lower setting on your collar. However, if your dog is not responding to your command at his regular setting, the jump and rise button can be pressed to slowly ramp the intensity level from your regular setting to a much higher setting over a few seconds until your dog responds. Once the button is released, the remote will jump back down to your normal intensity level setting.
Locate beeper
Pagers are commonly used by upland hunters who run their dogs in tall grass. It is not so easy to see your dog in this kind of terrain, so to locate them the beeper button can be pressed to play a loud auditory signal so you are able to get a good idea of where they are.
Run and point
This mode is only available on the warning collars and is very useful for "hearing" what your dog is doing at the top of the range when you are unable to see them. If you select Run and Point mode, the beeper on the dog collar will play a beep every 5-10 seconds while moving. When your dog stops and is on point, the beeper collar will play a faster beep, once per second, so you are able to recognize when the point is even if you are unable to meet them.
Point only
This mode works like the run and point mode, but instead will not play the beep while your dog is moving. However, when your dog stops and points, the audio signal will play once per second to let you hear.
FAQ - Necklace Training Questions / Answers
Whether you're looking to take dog training into your own hands for the first time, or a seasoned professional trainer, there are still many commonalities people have about electronic collars. Here are some answers to the questions we get the most about electric dog training collars.
How does distance learning collars work?
Remote dog training collars are made up of two main devices: the bodypack transmitter and the electronic collar for your dog. At its most basic level, the remote will have a button to send the static correction to the collar and a dial to adjust how strong that correction will be. The electronic collar has two dimpled contact points and when fitted correctly will rest comfortably against the skin on your dog's neck. You now have long-distance communication with your dog.
How long will it take to distance train my dog?
It depends on the action being difficult, but the average appropriate time for dog training is about ten minutes, twice a day, for two weeks to complete each short step of the action being trained. Of course, the average time depends on the dog's level of understanding, the complexity of the action and the trainer.
Will electrostatic correction hurt my dog?
No, electronic stimulation will not hurt or harm your dog in any way. This is probably one of the most frequently asked questions in the dog training world and there is no need to worry. Static correction from the e-collar is 100% safe and humane. The gentle static stimulation your dog feels is compared to some like the static electricity you feel when you pick up a doorknob after walking on the carpet. The stimulation is designed to be desirable to dogs so they will have to avoid it.
The Electronic Collar Manufacturers Association , an organization that oversees the manufacturing of safe and humane electronic training devices worldwide under the Animal Welfare Act , recently issued a statement, " Statements suggesting that electronic training products cause pain and distress in animals demonstrate a lack of awareness about animal welfare."

Still not sure about this? You can always hold the collar in the palm of your hand and press the button on the remote, starting at lower levels and working your way up to... at least that's what we did.
Are there alternatives to electrical stimulation?
Yes, there are. Some manufacturers make collars that use a vibration, a beep, or a cloud of citronella spray aimed at your dog's nose instead of electrostatic correction. With proper training, all three alternatives can be effective.
How do I know the appropriate level of stimulation to use?
Always start with a remote collar on the lowest level and slowly work your way up, or until you notice the slightest jerk in your dog's neck, head or shoulders or a jolt in their ears, when you send a correction. Now they know you are addressing them without overdoing it unnecessarily. It is recommended to find this setting when you are starting out with training your dog and not correcting simply to set the level. For dogs that are able to take it to the highest level without reacting, some brands make higher level remote collars for stubborn dogs.
How far is the range of a remote collar device?
The operating distance of the remote collar varies by system. Short range collars are primarily used by people who work with dogs in parks and yards, while mid-range collars will work at distances up to two miles. Long range collar systems, used primarily by hunters who use dogs for long ranges, can work at distances up to ten miles, with some displaying their location on the device's map. You'll find all of our collar systems listed next to each one in our store.
What age can my puppy be transmitted using a remote collar?
It is recommended that your puppy be at least 5-6 months old before using an e-collar. You want to make sure your puppy can easily handle the weight of the collar, but more importantly, you can teach them what you expect after you have already taught them basic commands. This is imperative for proper collar training.
How much does my dog need to weigh to use an e-collar?
There are a number of remote trainers specially designed for small dogs and the smallest recommended weight of these collars is 5KG. Remember to read the products recommended weight specifications before purchasing.
Can my dog wear the receiver collar for more than 12 hours?
No. The receiver collar should not be worn for more than 12 hours at a time. Due to pins and any collar receiver worn for an extended period of time can cause a condition similar to pressure sores, called skin necrosis.
What is the warranty for the electronic collars we sell online?
We here at GLEADING offer a 60 day warranty from your date of purchase. If you end up not liking the collar or find it to be defective, we will replace the unit or refund you the cost of the unit within the 60 day period.
